Summer Reading!

This is our bulletin board for summer reading with the theme Imagine your story!

Board has a table in from of it with handouts telling how to register online.
Everything is online this year so there is a table in front of this board with how to register online.

We had to move a lot of the furniture and computers into the story time room and this "wall" was built it gives kids the perfect place to take a photo. (Wall built because of COVID-19 guidelines)
I love how this makes her look like she has wings :)

Reader's Brunch Summer Reading Program for adults

With the theme Libraries Rock we decorated the tables using books, CDs, and records.

Patrons who read 2,000 pages or more were invited to the readers brunch. We had 35 patrons attend the brunch this year. That is more then double from last year.

Fruit, bagels, and muffins!

Bouquet made by one of our librarians.

We gave time for them to eat and talk. Most conversations I heard were about books!

I gave everyone a sticky note to write down a book they enjoyed this summer. Then we posted them on the white board.

There were some really great suggestions.

Book Journals

We had a summer reading activity to make book journals. We took composition notebooks and covered them with scrap-booking paper using Mod Podge. The notebooks came in a few different sizes. The most popular was the 5X7.
Pictures of some of the journals made at the library program.

PBS Great American Read

After getting several questions about the Great American Read. This list contains 100 fantastic books. I decided we needed that to be the next display at the Marshall Public Library. More information on PBS Great American Read can be found at https://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/home/. Artwork is from the PBS website.

In other words they completed the program. We had an enjoyable morning with juice, muffins, bagels, fruit and books! We had door prizes, free books and did the grand prize drawing.

For brunch we had muffins, bagels, fruit and juice.

Tables were decorated with books and MPL pens.

Everyone got to take home a book from the center of the tables.

Door prizes

Grand prize: Eclipse Package (chips & salsa, pizza coupon, soda, cups, t-shirts, and eclipse glasses, and book bag)

Cardboard Arcade

The teens had a cardboard arcade for the end of summer reading. My family made a giant Labyrinth game for the event. It was very fun to play.

Night of Color

As part of the adult summer reading challenge we had a coloring night. We listened to an Agatha Christie audio book while we colored book mars and coloring pages designed for adults. This was worth 50 points on the challenge for those who attended.

Build a Better World

Summer reading information, activities, and schedules are posted on our bulletin board that you see has you come into the library.
To make it fun we turned it into an "I Spy" game. The boarder is cards from the game Stare Jr. And we have a contest going for a drawing. How many books can you spy on this board?

There are many things to "spy" on this board along with the summer reading information.

For kick-off week we had this awesome poster for patrons to color. We placed it in front of the bulletin board. When it is finished we will hang it on the front of the circulation desk.

Registration table for all age groups. Teens on the left. Children in the middle and adults on the right.

Fiber Arts

A few years ago we started a tradition and it has become part of our summer reading program. We have participated in World Wide Knit in Public Day (more info here). We invite all ages and skill levels to come work on their fiber arts and hang out at the library. We talk about books and current events while we knit, crochet, embroider, cross stitch, or even hand sew.

Library patrons knitting and crocheting in the middle of the first floor of the library as they celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day.

This also inspired us to have some fiber art groups that meet at the library. We have Knifty Knitting -Crazy Crocheting, which meets every Wednesday at 4pm. This group is mostly for children or those who are learning the skills. Then we also have Spin a Good Yarn that meets twice a month on Thursday evenings. This group is for adults and we also talk about books while we work on our projects.

Fizz, Boom, READ bulletin board

The 2014 summer reading program theme was Fizz, Boom, Read. We had lots of programs based around this fun science theme. So to keep our patrons informed we had this bulletin board. To make the board I used the clip art provided by the Collaborative Summer Reading Program. Then made a spot for each age group to post their events for the summer.

Each month we would switch out the sheets of paper to list the current months activities for children, young adults, and adults. We had record numbers register and attend our activities this year.
