Winter Reading 2018

Winter reading sign up has begun. Like years past teen and children are doing bingo cards that encourages them to read different types of books. This program goes through March 9. When they get a bingo they bring in their completed card and they get a prize.
The 50/50 Book Quest is new this year. It is a year long reading challenge for adults that goes all year. The challenge is to read 50 books in 50 weeks. There are 50 different categories including things like; read a book by an Idaho author, read a book with a ghost in it, and read a book with an ugly cover. There is a reading log to track their progress/titles. This ends December 31, 2018. Those who complete the challenge will get a T-shirt.

Winter reading

This year for winter reading we decided to keep it simple. We are doing a Tic-Tac-Toe card. When you get 3 in a row you get a plastic book bag and get an entry into our grand prize drawing which is a winter gift basket.
This is the bulletin board in the entryway letting our patrons know about the program.
Sample of the card is posted.
Close up of the card. Link to PDF.
I paper pieced the penguin together. I loved how he turned out.  The snow is crinkled up tracing paper.

Reading is SNOW Cool!

Our summer reading program has always been very successful and I was often asked why we didn't do a program in the winter. So a few years ago our library started a winter reading program that runs January through the first day of spring in March. This year the theme is Reading is SNOW Cool!
This is our bulletin board promoting the program.
Registration on a table near the Circulation Desk.
The program is broken down into 3 age groups.
  • Non-readers ages 0-5 get to earn their prize by being read to.
  • Readers ages 5-12 earn their prize by how many minutes they read.
  • Teens and adults have a BINGO card that encourages them to read different types of books.
