Blind Date (6th annual)

Blind Date (6th annual)
This year the display was based on first impressions. The first page of the book was copied and the library patron can read the first few lines to the book. The books are all wrapped in fun Valentine's paper.

We also added teen and children's books to the display. They are

Barcodes are scanned into an Excel sheet and then printed for fewer errors. Then the number is taped to the back.

Winter Reading 2018

Winter reading sign up has begun. Like years past teen and children are doing bingo cards that encourages them to read different types of books. This program goes through March 9. When they get a bingo they bring in their completed card and they get a prize.
The 50/50 Book Quest is new this year. It is a year long reading challenge for adults that goes all year. The challenge is to read 50 books in 50 weeks. There are 50 different categories including things like; read a book by an Idaho author, read a book with a ghost in it, and read a book with an ugly cover. There is a reading log to track their progress/titles. This ends December 31, 2018. Those who complete the challenge will get a T-shirt.

New Year's Resolutions

I thought it would be fun to compare New Year's Resolutions to big books and it made a fun display.

Start your year with a BIG BOOK!

Old sign on top was to hard to read so I swapped it for a new one.

View from the side. I used a word cloud maker that lists common resolutions vs titles on the display

Food for Fines

Each year we have a few weeks were patrons can pay off their library fines with canned food. Then we turn around and donated the food to our local food bank. This year was amazing. Here is a bulletin board where we tracked how much had been donated. Program started in November and into December 2017.
Each small can equaled 10 donated cans!

Gobble Up Books!

We had several teen books awaiting a new shelf. Instead of having them "hang out" on a cart I decided to make them into our November display.
Gobble Up Teen Fiction
Display is full of "new to us" young adult books.

Close up of the turkey. Tail is made wit strips of paper looped then stapled and glued to the body. Image of body was found in Google images with the search. turkey clip art. (I cut off the tail that was originally on it. I also added the book).

Picture of the side of the display case.

Close up of display to show poster on the top.

Need Brains? (Zombie)

I saw this idea at cafepress.com and loved the wording. The zombie silhouettes were found with a Google image search. Wording and zombies printed on the same paper that was used for the background. Super fast to put together.

Sink your teeth into an audio book

We have several "scary" but not necessarily Halloween audio books that I wanted to display for October. The theme is Sink Your Teeth into an Audio book (with vampires for Halloween).

Side view showing the vampires peeking out from behind a row of CDs.

I added labels on a few of the shelves so that it was obvious what was appropriate for younger patrons.

The vampires are wearing headphones!

I was asked how I did the discs. I took the discs from discarded books on CD and tied them together with yarn. Then I hung them over the sides of the display unit. I did use a small amount of tape behind a few of them just so they would not swing if bumped.
