Night of Color
As part of the adult summer reading challenge we had a coloring night. We listened to an Agatha Christie audio book while we colored book mars and coloring pages designed for adults. This was worth 50 points on the challenge for those who attended.

Build a Better World

Summer reading information, activities, and schedules are posted on our bulletin board that you see has you come into the library.

To make it fun we turned it into an "I Spy" game. The boarder is cards from the game Stare Jr. And we have a contest going for a drawing. How many books can you spy on this board?

There are many things to "spy" on this board along with the summer reading information.

For kick-off week we had this awesome poster for patrons to color. We placed it in front of the bulletin board. When it is finished we will hang it on the front of the circulation desk.

Books are like a Tardis...display

The sign on top of the display. We did this display a few years ago. If you want the graphic for the sign follow this link.

Display is filled with time travel books.

This display has been fun for Dr. Who fans. We even had library patrons that had to take their picture next to it. But we never did see the Doctor.

Book Bites
Book Bites are the smaller sized books in the adult fiction that are high interest-low vocabulary books. (A.K.A. book shots or high/low books). We wanted to make these books easier for patrons to find. We placed new bookshelf on the end-cap at the beginning of the adult fiction. These books are great for those that English is a second language or they just want something lighter or quicker to read.

Tales Old As Time...Retold
With Beauty and the Beast coming out this month a co-worker asked if we could display all the Beauty and the Beast books. Knowing how quickly they would all get checked out I expanded that idea to Retellings of Fairy Tales.

March Madness in Books!
ROUND 1
Update: The Winner!

MPL March Madness in Books! is a tournament-styled book
battle for all ages at the Marshall Public Library. MPL has selected 32 top checked
out books from different areas of the library. These titles have been randomly paired
off in a bracket battle where your votes will advance them to the next round.
Voting ballots are available at the library, at www.marshallpl.org, and on the
MPL Facebook page. A bulletin board will track the voting progress. You do not
need to have read every book to vote. Feel free to look up summaries or reviews
and decide which book will progress to the next round. Ballots will be tallied at the end of each
week and the winning tiles will be advanced to the next round. Then a new
ballot will be available. Voting begins February 24. Make sure to get your votes
in each week and help us choose the #1 book for MPL March Madness in Books! The
winning book will be announced April 3rd.
I found so many different versions of this idea but I loved the templates found over at www.literaryhoots.com. So that is what I used too. For the other graphics I googled March Madness in images. I added "In Books!" The other graphic is a basketball hoop and I added the orange book.

Fashionable Reads
This was a fun book display featuring books with clothing in the title. It was surprising how many books went up on this display. Just to name a few titles:
I totally forgot to take a picture of this display. But This shows what was up on the sides.
I just googled paper dolls, printed a few, and simply cut out their clothing.
- The Dress Shop of Dreams by Menna van Praag
- The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares
- The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott
- The Kid in the Red Jacket by Barbara Park
- The Red Shirt Kids by Bryce Clark
- If the Shoe Fits by Sarah Mlynowski
- The Rag Coat by Lauren Mills
