March Madness (year 2)

MPL March Madness: Battle of the Books!

MPL March Madness: The Battle of the Books has returned. Marshall Public Library will once again have a tournament-styled battle of the books. MPL has selected 32 of the top checked out books from 2017. These titles will randomly be paired off in a bracket battle were your votes will advance them to the next round. Voting ballots are available at the library or online at www.marshallpl.org or on the MPL Facebook page. A bulletin board at MPL will track the voting progress. Ballots will be tallied every week and the winning tiles will be advanced to the next round. Each Monday a new ballot will be available. Voting begins March 5. Make sure to get your votes in each week and help us choose the #1 book for MPL March Madness: The Battle of the Books! The winning book will be announced April 9.

I love the basketball hoop. We placed a loop of card stock behind it to make it pop out. I love the effect and the little extra character it add the the board.

One of our ballot boxes ready to go. (This locking box was purchased on Amazon).

First ballot

Choose 10 books to compete in the book battle. MPL will take the top 16 and randomly pair them off in a bracket battle were the votes will advance them to the next round.

Lesser Known Books by Famous Authors

Lesser known book by a famous author is one of the 50/50 Book Quest categories. A lot of patrons have been asking about it. SO I put together a display featuring well known authors = "famous" and their not well known books.  I even made a handout to go with it.

The end caps have the author's well know book featured. Lift the flap to discover something else they wrote.

This year the display was based on first impressions. The first page of the book was copied and the library patron can read the first few lines to the book. The books are all wrapped in fun Valentine's paper.

We also added teen and children's books to the display. They are

Winter Reading 2018

Winter reading sign up has begun. Like years past teen and children are doing bingo cards that encourages them to read different types of books. This program goes through March 9. When they get a bingo they bring in their completed card and they get a prize.
The 50/50 Book Quest is new this year. It is a year long reading challenge for adults that goes all year. The challenge is to read 50 books in 50 weeks. There are 50 different categories including things like; read a book by an Idaho author, read a book with a ghost in it, and read a book with an ugly cover. There is a reading log to track their progress/titles. This ends December 31, 2018. Those who complete the challenge will get a T-shirt.

New Year's Resolutions

I thought it would be fun to compare New Year's Resolutions to big books and it made a fun display.

Start your year with a BIG BOOK!

Old sign on top was to hard to read so I swapped it for a new one.

View from the side. I used a word cloud maker that lists common resolutions vs titles on the display
